Descrição:
This chapter explores the use of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO₂) as an alternative reaction medium in a biotransformation process mediated by a microbial enzyme. The study focuses on evaluating the technical feasibility of employing SC-CO₂ in a system involving the microbial conversion of a monoterpene compound into a value-added oxygenated derivative. In addition to assessing key reaction parameters, the work introduces a novel methodology for monitoring pH under supercritical conditions, contributing to the understanding of enzymatic inhibition phenomena in high-pressure systems. Although this approach led to methodological advances, the overall assessment indicates limitations in the applicability of SC-CO₂ for this specific biocatalytic process.
