dc.description The general aim of the study is to evaluate the occlusive potential provided by cosmetic emollients derived from esters and vegetable oils and to compare the effectiveness of these ingredients to the Petrolatum, known for its high occlusive potential. The evaluation of the occlusive performance of the emollients was perfomed by measuring the transepidermal water loss, known as TEWL, using the probe Tewameter TM300®. The TEWL measurements were performed at baseline, after 15 minutes, 2 and 6 hours after the application of the products on the forearm volar side of healthy research participants. The study evaluated the occlusive potential of ten different emollients used in cosmetic formulations: Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Dodecane, Canola Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Carya Illinoensis Seed Oil, Lecithin, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Ricinus Communis Seed Oil. The results obtained in the study can be used in the development of cosmetics formulations that aim for better clinical answers to repair and hydrate the skin.
